Leadership

“If anyone sets his heart on being an overseer, he desires a noble task.” 1Timothy 3:1 Most Christians have reservation about aspiring to leadership. They are unsure about whether it is truly right for a person want to be leader. After all, is it not better for the position seeks out the person rather than the person seeks out the position? Has not ambition caused the downfall of numerous otherwise great leaders in church, people who fell victim to the “last infirmity of noble minds”? No doubt, Christians must resist a certain kind of ambition and rid it from their lives. But we must understand other ambition as noble, worthy and honorable. In 1Timothy 3:1, Paul encourages us, when our ambition carries out a burning desire to be effective in the service of God, it is a noble desire and task. The rise and fall of the society or church is depending on the quality of leader. The role of leaders in the church is to set things in order so that the church will be healthy, and only a healthy church will produce healthy growth. Leaders change the world; they don’t leave the world the same way they found it. As leaders when we are working and building the Kingdom of God, we are defending the attack from the devil. I like a saying, “The triumph of evil is when good man does nothing”. This saying shows me that we Christians should take up the responsible of leadership to change the world for better. Do not scare that we will fail or make it worse. In Genesis 1:28, God have commanded us to be leaders and have dominion over the world. So to be a leader should be the goal for every Christians.
